30 years after Prozac arrived, we still buy the lie that chemical imbalances cause depression

Unfortunately, I know first-hand that there are chemical imbalances that do cause depression. However, the imbalance occurs in the gut/intestines where a majority of the body’s serotonin is produced. If you have candida in your intestines, it blocks the production of serotonin and then you struggle with very real depression and anxiety. When I first went on antidepressants (many years ago) they helped significantly within a few days, and that was because my serotonin levels were very low. Ironically, the candida just happens to be caused by…you guessed it…pharmaceuticals. Because I had chronic sinusitis, I was put on antibiotics numerous times over the years. Antibiotics not only knock out the bad bacteria in your system, but also the good bacteria you need for a healthy, balanced intestinal flora, then along with the American diet of refined food, yeast starts to take over the intestines, blocking the production of serotonin. So, chemical imbalances are real…and the culprit is pharmaceuticals.
