    a fine commentary, thank you

the “napkin” covered his Face when his visage was hidden by death/absence — as his Face is still hidden, to most folks

at advent two, his Face is seen in the clouds, and eventually everyone on the planet will see it, uncovered (i.e., alive and present again)

most will be terrified by this, tho some will be comforted

nap = sleep, and kin = relations or “family” — so the King’s gesture was to say, “I’m holding your place for the marriage feast, see, here’s my personal token, death wont have power over any of my family either”

    cheers

This is a must share and I will do so. Just shared with my oldest daughter and it was a wonderful blessing. Yes, totally agree that not one word of the Bible (KJV) should ever be tampered with. Thanks for sharing. Wow! What a blessing……..

    John,
Would you please tell me where in the KJ Holy Scriptures is ‘slain in the spirit’ and sins being burned out of people when slain? I sincerely want to know!

    • JohnMcTernan says:

I never said slain in the spirit in the modern context of these words.
I was using eye witness reports of what happened in many of the revivals back in history.

      • JohnMcTernan says:

Isaiah 4:4 When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion,
and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment,
and by the spirit of burning.

I went to biblegateway.com and looked at the wording of each transllation they have for John 20:7. All but the NIV versions mention that the napkin was folded/rolled up.

John 20:7 (NIV) – “as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen.”

    • JohnMcTernan says:

Thanks soooo much for sharing this with me.
This shows why people should flee from the NIV but all the modern translations.
When I teach on the versions this is a great example to use.

  15. Loretta says:

I love this. I never knew why, but we were taught that when you were finished with dinner to wad the napkin and leave it in your plate. This is a constant reminder now.
WOW John, I learn something every time I log on to this site. I love it.
    Thank you.

  16. Greg says:

When I was in Israel a number of years ago our guide (who was a believer) mentioned something similar. He said that in ancient times when a craftsman had finished his project would fold up that cloth that was around his head and place it at the end of the table. This would signify to anyone coming into his shop that he had just finished a project. This was only something that one would catch if you understood the culture of the time.

I had heard this story a few years ago and I retold it to my Bible Study group just a few weeks ago. Another lady in the class said she researched this tradition with some Rabbis and none had ever heard of this. Has anyone researched this further?

  18. Joni says:

@Pat, Thank you for looking this up in all the “versions”.
I am not shocked, but I am shocked, if that makes sense, re the NIV deleting this.
EVERYTHING the NIV changes or deletes has HUGE POWER.
That alone is my backup system for recognizing how powerful the only real Bible is, the KJB.
    Wow.
    God Bless us all,
    Joni

I regard to the NIV translation on John 20:7, I looked up this passage in two NIV Bibles I have at home and found the phrase “The cloth was folded up by itself separate from the linen.” Copyright 1996. So I did find it in the NIV..
