Researchers are working on pill for loneliness: studies suggest condition worse than obesity

“The volunteers at the University of Chicago’s Brain Dynamics Laboratory, all otherwise young and healthy, were tied together by really only one thing: nearly off-the-chart scores on the most widely used scale measuring loneliness.

Asked how often they felt they had no one they could turn to, how often they felt their relationships seemed superficial and forced, how often they felt alone, left out, isolated or no longer closer to anyone, the answer, almost always, was “always.”

“An explosion occurred Monday night at a Russian biological research laboratory where samples of the smallpox virus are stored, reports said.

The incident took place at the Vector State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology when a gas cylinder located on the fifth floor of the building exploded, a statement from the facility said. One laboratory worker was burned by the explosion and subsequent fire that spread over 300 square feet before it was extinguished. The worker was later taken to a hospital for medical treatment.”

Tory MP Giles Watling was later told that the main reason the Ministry of Justice blocked the bill was over fears it would be seen as “culturally insensitive” to dictate to other countries what they could eat, despite the fact that it would have no impact whatsoever on South-East Asian countries where dog and cat meat is consumed.

“Dogs are our companion animals. We do not eat them, and that is a very important message to send to the rest of the world,” said Watling. “It’s not culturally insensitive because we’re not telling them what to do – we’re just telling them what we do,” he added, noting that he was “surprised” by the MoJ’s objection.”
